He started his medical education (MBBS) in 2002 at JSS Medical College, Mysore. Soon after his MBBS, He completed his post-graduation in Orthopaedics with flying colours as a topper of the 2009 Orthopaedic batch at the Bangalore Medical College and Research institute, a Premier Government Medical College of India.

“Tata Memorial Hospital”

As he had keen interest in bone and soft tissue cancers, immediately after his post-graduation he joined as Senior Resident in Orthopedic- Oncology at the prestigious Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, which is a main referral centre of cancer for South Asia. His excellent performance in his senior residency led to his selection for the Homi Bhabha National Institute 2 years fellowship in Musculo-Skeletal Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. After completing 2 years fellowship, he worked as A Specialist Resident in Department of Musculo-Skeletal oncology at the same centre.
Under guidance of his mentors Prof Dr Ajay Puri and Prof Dr Ashish Gulia he has performed more than hundreds of major surgeries and was part of more than 2500 surgeries. This has given him an immense exposure in management of all varieties of bone and soft tissue cancers. He was actively involved in Multidisciplinary tumor boards and so he understands its importance in the management of these rare tumours. He has also published several research studies and articles in various national and International Journals. He has presented research work/scientific data at various International and national conferences and has won many awards.

He was a Clinical visitor at Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, UK which is the Premium institute for sarcomas in England and Europe. He had the great opportunity to learn Navigation tumor surgeries and complex pelvic reconstruction by Prof Lee Jeys, Prof lee Jeys is an authority in the Navigation tumor surgeries and has published numerous publications related to it.

“Narayana Health

At a young age he was appointed as chief of Musculo-skeletal oncology at Mazumdar Shaw Medical centre, Narayana Health City, Bangalore in 2016. He has been instrumental in starting exclusive department of Musculo-Skeletal Oncology. Today the department has state of art infrastructure to handle complex bone and soft tissue cancers and conducted more than 1000 successful limb salvage surgeries and treated more than 2500 bone and soft tissue cancer patients. The department has achieved several milestones like maximum complex pelvic surgeries, new surgical techniques like pedicle cryotherapy, Navigation tumor surgeries and use of 3D reconstruction for complex bone tumor.
On regular basis he conducts free cancer camps for poor patients across Karnataka. He has organised numerous activities like marathon, walkathon, given Television talks and written news articles to increase awareness about bone cancers among doctors and public. He activity involved educational activities, he is a faculty in national and international conferences.

IMSOS 2020

He was the Organising Secretary for India Musculo-Skeletal Oncology Society Meeting 2020. It is an annual national conference of prestigious Indian Musculo-Skeletal Oncology Society. It was 3 days academic feast and was attended by more than 250 delegates from different states of India and outside India from different specialities of medicine like oncosurgery, pathology and radiology. It had featured renowned International and national faculties. It was a first of its kind musculoskeletal oncology conference to be organised in Karnataka.

Founder Member of ‘Sarcoma Education Foundation’

This trust works on improving care of sarcoma patients by promoting education and research related to Musculoskeletal oncology. We have conducted workshops, CMEs, conferences across the country in addition to providing a platform to do musculoskeletal oncology related research. We have joined hands with various NGOs to educate and help sarcoma patients.

Hobbies & Passion

HOBBIES AND PASSION

Dr Suman Byregowda is very active in sports from his school and college days. He was caption of Bangalore Medical college Cricket team during his postgraduation days.
He is a trained dancer; he has been trained in Zumba fitness dance by Swethambari Shetty He is a marathon runner, has done many half marathons(21km) and mountain trails like TATA Mumbai Marathon, Nandhi Hill mountain run, Ooty marathon. TCS, Tuffman etc.
He loves trekking and being with nature to name the few treks are Ombettu gudda trek, Makutta Trek , Few Himalayan treks etc.
He is a passionate cyclist. He has been awarded as “Super Radennour” for completing 2ookm, 300 km, 400 km and 600km cycling, His greatest achievement is to cycle from Manali (6730ft) to leh (11562ft) over a period of 9 days and cycling to Khardungla pass (17582ft) the highest motorable road in the world on 15th August 2021. .
